I think the only way is to buy the Game on Steam also.
Then Steam came with the mod workshop and CrosuS slowly died..
Steam probably was the easiest way to use, not that CrosuS was hard (not at all). But you had to manually install games, with Steam you don't.
So in conclusion the world already had the perfect solution for mods.. but most people didn't knew it existed and now we have Steam mod workshop which only works with games bought on Steam. Instead of improving the way people access mods they made it worse. It makes me sad thinking about it. :(
