Terry, I'd be more than happy to do it for you, and it would only cost you a case of beer. The only problem is that I'm in the Channel Islands so by the time you got here it would have been cheaper just to pay the £450 quote that you had. I took the car, wife and kids to the mainland last August and it cost us £627, and that was just the boat fare!!
I wish that I'd videoed the removal to show how easy it really is. The hardest part was undoing the the two bolts underneath which were rusty but using a long 12mm, 12 point, wall drive spanner and a strong arm, they lost the fight and were soon loosened.
When fitting the blanking plates, they can just be left unshaped, ie. I made mine out of some scrap 50mm x 3mm flat that I had in the garage and yes I shaped mine because I have the tools to do that, but I did just offer up the metal and wondered why bother shaping it? I could have just drilled the holes and bolted them straight on.
I reused the same bolts, adding copper slip and an 8mm nut as the threads are on the valve unit which is now in my scrap box. Also remember to blank off the vacuum pipe with a small bolt and cable tie out of the way.
Just for the record, you DON'T have to take anything off and it would be no quicker if you were to waste time taking off the inter cooler. It's not necessary to remove anything at all in order to get the EGR valve out, it will come out by twisting it around the heater hoses which are the only (slight) obstruction.
Hope this helps to take away the fear of tackling this job, it looks like a hard job but it really isn't.
